My African American History Collage

These are the African Americans leaders that mean’t alot to the African American community and the world that don’t get as much recognition as they deserve. Barrack Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, Micheal Jordan, and Micheal Jackson are not the only successful African American people.

This is a fantastic collage. You bring up a great point. When we study history, especially African-American history, we are taught the same names over and over again. We might hear names like David J. Peck(first African American to get an M.D.) or William Wells Brown(first African-America to publish a novel) , but people are less inclined to remember what they did as oppossed to Malcolm X or Martin Luther King Jr, even though the contributions of all four men were significant. This also reminds me of a profound Morgan Freeman quote, where he states that he wishes there wasn’t a black history month because black history is American history.

I really like this collage AV. I like your point that you made about how some people really are not portrayed in the same light as others. I went to the I Am Black History event last night in Dewberry and it was really insightful on how we as just youth are affecting black history at this very moment with the day to day actions that we make. Everything we do now in this very generation is black history because we still have a long way to go and we are taking step towards equality everyday. So I am proud to say that I am changing history with each day that I live out the goals and dreams of our ancestors. Even though we are not all recognized we are definitely all making a difference!
