Don’t wait for your success. Go out and take it. That’s what Macklemore did, anyway.
I admire the idea of artists staying independent and becoming successful, because that means they did not sit back and wait for this huge record label to take them up. Although his choice to stay independent was due to logistics, he wanted to prove that he could make music his way, and still flourish. He released two songs that have created buzz within the past year, (“Thrift Shop” ,”Same Love”) an became an advocate for gay rights at the same, bringing light to a controversial topic that is not well versed in the hip-hop scene. Macklemore is definitely one who goes against the grain when it comes to popular hip-hop. Can’t wait to see what he does next! So I guess, the point I am trying to make is that if there is anything you would like to do, music or in our case leadership, try not to linger; just grasp the opportunity and when you are ready kick it out of the park. You determine how you would like to blossom.
I also have a question: who are people that you know that have also made their own success the “DIY” way?
Here is a song of his to enjoy:

My mom is an interior designer. Originally, her father was rather opposed to her doing design as a main career. But she stuck to what she loves to do and later started her own entrepreneurship as an interior designer. She’s had her business for over 10 years now and I don’t know of a person who is happier in their work. It’s not work if you do what you love! She’s the best “DIY-er” I can think of.

‘Knowledge is that which is perceived!’ ~ ‘Ignorance is that which is not perceived!’
The only thing that isn’t DIY is what others do for you!
Success cannot be DIY, for you need others to succeed!
Who will buy your music – Justin Bieber – if others weren’t here!
I know no one that has succeeded through the DIY method; for ‘success cannot be DIY, for you need others to succeed!’
How can this ~ Macklemore ~ become successful if he were the only one listening to his own music! Impossible!

I will respectably disagree with you. What you are misunderstanding is the point that I’m putting out is that you should wait for others to achieve what you want. You go out and do it. Macklemore had help from friends and colleagues, and he did not leave them behind at all. He gained his fans and success, because he chose to rap the way he does or release music independently; looking into music industry history, releasing music independently with such creative management over it is usually a hit or miss. So, I do believe in the long-running career Macklemore has had as an independent artist, and finally coming up in 2013, has succeeded in the DIY way.
