Service mixed with leadership

I remember when we took some class time talking about what makes a service and how it is affected by leadership.  I sometimes think about how we define service. So I found this article on a blog about what service is. The title of the article is The difference between “Service” and “Serve Us!”. It is a short article, but it has some good stuff. The first topic he talks about is that the person needs to be a good listener. The second part he talks about is that they have to out others first. The last thing is that the person needs to be a responsible steward. What do you think about this article? Do you think that they portrayed what service really is?

This is an interesting article. The three attributes I’ll leave others to discuss. My question is related to the reason the author wrote the piece – he felt that college students he sees are more interested in “what’s in it for me” than in actively seeking out ways they can be put to use to do some good. Agree? Disagree? I feel I’m not in a good position to judge since the students who come to a “Center for Leadership and Community Engagement” tend to be the ones that DO seek to make a contribution. Are they like most students? Are they exceptional?
